Yolk is Maria Neuman and her cast of able-bodied assistants like mom Anita, dad Per and fiancé Reuben. Born in Sweden and raised all over, from Australia to Connecticut, she's a design nut, which probably started with her introduction to Shrinky Dinks in the early 70's. After years of flexing her brainy word muscles at magazines such as Marie Claire, Teen People and Esquire, she decided to take over the lovely space in Silver Lake called Yolk. Started in 2003 by Danish furniture maker Melanie Miller, Maria took it over in early 2007. We love things for kids, adults, and anything in between. If it's colorful, functional, and not too pricey we're super all over it. We get to relive our childhood by stocking classic children's books, toys and indestructible Scandinavian kids' furniture. We're honored to carry the beautiful Atlantico line of adult furniture that is modern, stylish, and thoroughly road tested by Yolk...since we rearrange every week. Finally, our goal is to be a fun place, somewhere you want to hang out and shop, as well as a place that is stocked with hard to find items from around the world. Our products come from all over, from Stockholm to Sydney. That's why it's called "Free Range Design"!
