We are all dedicated to understanding dog behavior and the science of how dogs learn. In 2004 six WOOFS! trainers traveled to Denver for the annual APDT educational conference, and I expect as many will go in 2005. We really do get together for happy hour to discuss training challenges and training methods and analyze interesting dog behavior.

I took puppy classes at Woofs with my dog and a family member boarded her dog there and used them for daycare. We love the staff. They were friendly, professional and very caring. I have referred many friends there and all came back to thank me for referring them there because their dogs had a great time and were well cared for.
Had a terrible experience, and I learned quickly that your dogs are not as safe as you think they are Woofs. My puppy was seriously injured while boarding at the Shirlington location. No one took her to the vet, no one called me or my fiance. She had a fractured leg - but the staff assumed that a. it was a preexisting condition (no idea why) and b. it was just a muscle strain. I was told by the owner that she was not in real pain because she never cried loudly. These behavior specialists still have a lot to learn. My puppy was crying softly, moping, sleeping all day, etc. When we picked up from boarding her back right leg was dragging behind her on the floor when she could no longer hold it off the ground. When asked why she was not taken to the vet the owner actually said that it would be ridiculous to take every dog that limped at daycare to the vet. She then preceded to tell me how many times she had taken her dogs to the vet because she thought they had a fracture and didn't. I guess she's better safe than sorry and the Woof's clients are better sorry than safe. My dog is in a cast for a month - that requires a vet visit every 3 days to rewrap, cannot go for walks, play with toys, or do anything but rest and relieve herself. The staff have no idea how it happened. No one saw anything. A staff member discovered her limp when it was time to take her to the crate for dinner. I can't believe that they did not provide better care, did not supervise the puppies carefully, and showed a complete lack of concern for my puppy's health. Follow up conversations with the owner were absolutely ridiculous - she was defensive, contradictory, lacked any compassion for the health of my dog, rude (cursed several times) all while I was just trying to find out how my dog fractured her leg under their supervision. Woofs is not as safe as I thought it was.
