Located in the heart of the East Village at 2nd Avenue and 12th Street, the Village East Cinemas was built in 1926 as a Yiddish theater. The Village East Cinemas has been beautifully restored and still features the original ornate Moorish design both inside and outside the theater. Its large ornate main auditorium, offering comfortable stadium designed seating and oversized screen, remains one of NYC’s best places to see a film. The Village East features an eclectic mix of programming from commercial blockbusters to the finest in independent film. In addition to premiering many independent films, the Village East Cinemas, which is the sister theater of the renowned Angelika Film Center, frequently continues the engagements of many of the films that open at the Angelika.
