In 1968 Stanley A. Urban founded Urban Jewelers in downtown Ann Arbor, Michigan. It has been in its current location at 215 S. Main Street since 1988. In 1997 Mark Urban, Stanley's son, bought the business. Stanley, or "The Boss" as everyone calls him, became semi-retired (meaning he's on his own schedule). He just can't stay away from something he loves! Today Mark and his staff carry on the same business principles that the business was formed on...knowledge, professionalism, quality and service.

Mark and Cheryl Urban are both very creative people. Mark places a tremendous amount of thought and personal touches to all the pieces in their store. Cheryl is a certified gemologist and is very knowledgeable and service oriented so that any concerns or questions you may have about any piece she is able to give you a knowledgeable answer.

My younger sister had numerous pieces of jewelry designed by Urban Jewelers...they were GORGEOUS! The jewelry was of the finest quality and the designs were truly unique. If you notice I said "had, was, and were" because my sister was killed (along with my brother-in-law) when their private aircraft went down in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Venice, FL. Why am I telling you this? I want you to know the type of establishment Urban Jewelers is! Because their pieces were so unusual, I "knew" where they were made. I took them to Urban Jewelers, Cheryl and Mark Urban, to see if there was any way they "may" be able to resell their one of a kind pieces. Without hesitation they agreed to see what they could do for me. They held each piece until the "right buyer" came along who recognized quality. The Urbans were not willing to "just sell the pieces" to get them out of their inventory. I must also mention that they did this for a complete stranger who does NOT live in MI...I live in a small town in southern NJ! They are honest with all of their customers in EVERY aspect - their quality jewelry and their desire to please the customer. They do what so many other business have forgotten over the years - they SERVE their customers with a smile even when it may not be easy to do so! (FYI - my sister had "hundreds of thousands of dollars" worth of jewelry but the Urban jewelry could be spotted among all of her earrings, rings, bracelets, chains, pins, and pendants. I could go on and on but I'm sure you're getting tired of reading this. Please know that "if" I had something that was NOT complimentary, I wouldn't hesitate to write that either. The Urbans took a commission for selling the jewelry, which is only right, but they were "up-front" with me for the entire 1 1/2 years I had been dealing with them. I can't sing praises enough about a company that "deserves" to be recognized as "THE BEST!" There are so few of them around in today's world!
