The Ugly Mug Cafe houses the only small batch artisan roastery in the state of Michigan, and was the first to introduce the true art of third-wave specialty coffee. The Roaster masters of The Ugly Mug Cafe implement a combination of scientific theory and culinary execution to develop a sophisticated and complex cup, bound to enthrall and enlighten the senses. As a cafe and roastery, it is their mission to provide our clients and consumers with not only a quality product, but an extensive knowledge of coffee and its surrounding culture. The Ugly Mug Cafe is proud to be located in the heart of Ypsilanti, conveniently nestled between Eastern Michigan University's campus and historic Depot Town. The ambiance of The Ugly Mug Cafe is just as diverse as its clientele--people from all walks of life come together in our comfortable and intimate setting for coffee, conversation, and more, or just drop in for something to go. The Ugly Mug Cafe offers complimentary WI-FI services, and is the only cafe in Ypsilanti that accommodates both smoking and non-smoking sections.

this place has absolutely the best coffee and espresso in the state! If you know fine coffee, you'll taste the difference. It is incredible!

Their coffee is some of the best. They have amazing crepes and muffins, their specialty drinks are incredible, and the theater seats at some of the table are unique and extremely comfortable.

The ugly mug is fun and interesting, but more importantly, they take the utmost pride in the quality of their coffee. They roast on site and have top professional baristas creating the greatest coffee drinks. They are truly the best.

I practically lived at the ugly mug my senior year at Eastern. The best coffee and music . . . and a smoking section. If it was not for the Ugly Mug, i would not have done so well on the GRE. I miss it so much.

The quality of the coffee is excellent! I'm something of an aficionado and I've been to probably hundreds of coffee shops all over Michigan in the past 12 years. These guys make the best coffee I've ever had. Period.

The Ugly Mug has the best coffee in the world. I cared little for the taste of coffee before having their coffee. Now I understand that coffee can taste GOOD. It's the best because they roast their own and are meticulous perfectionists. They want to drink the best themselves and we all benefit from it!

The Ugly Mug has everything a coffee lover would want. The quality of the coffee and espresso is notably better in taste than other leading coffee shops like Starbucks, plus they make coffee art with every latte and cappuccino. The atmosphere is great for studying and the staff is attractive and friendly. I highly recommend this place to all who love coffee.

Amazing espresso drinks. Their "triple ristretto" shots are thick and creamy ... a little too strong for me to drink strait, but when combined with the expert pouring of their barristas the resulting drinks are unmatched in the area.
