Depending on who you talk to, the Tigard Area Farmer's Market was started around 1993 or 1994 by the Tigard Chamber of Commerce and incorporated in 1997. The market is now an independent public benefit corporation. The market has a board of directors, made up of local business people that provide a lot of direction, skill and amusement. Originally, the market was held on Saturday at the Portland Clinic parking lot on Oleson and Hall.. Several years ago, The Portland Clinic started operating on Saturdays and needed the use of the parking area for their patients. We had the choice of having to find a new site or changing operations to Sunday. We put out questionnaires at the market and received support from our customers that help us decide to make the change. The decision to hold the market on Sunday was also made to facilitate shopping for those who find it difficult to frequent the local markets held on Saturday. In 2006, the market moved again to its current site in the Washington Square Too parking lot. The market is now larger and the parking much better.
