Charlotte's oldest live music establishment, the Double Door Inn, has been bringing in local, regional, and national acts since its doors opened on December 22, 1973. The Double Door Inn has gained national recognition for bringing in the best in blues artists. The blues acts which laid the foundation for this local mainstay included the Nighthawks, T-Birds, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Willie Dixon, John Hammond, Junior Walker, Matt "Guitar" Murphy, and Bob Margolin. Many other artists have taken the stage including Buddy Guy, Koko Taylor, Luther Allison, Elvin Bishop, Gatemouth Brown, Joe Ely, JJ Cale, Wet Willie, Roy Buchanan, Kenny Neal, Jim Thackery, Tinsley Ellis, Tom Principato, and Delbert McClinton.
