The Boston Bagel Scene
Created by: neight
Recently, Boston seems to be coming out ahead of New York in the age-old Red Sox-Yankees rivalry. Unfortunately, if there were a bagel rivalry, I think 10 out of 9 people would agree that NY Bagels are better.
While there's nothing comparable to a heavenly H&H Bagel, there are a few places where you can get a decent bagel.

Kupel's Bake & Bagel
For my money, Kupel's (pronounced "kuh-pels") makes the best bagels in the Boston area.
I love how they make all of the different bagels both standard as well as whole wheat. Where else can you get a whole wheat poppy seed bagel?
The lox and whitefish salad are both very good (tip: get the lox with chive cream cheese). -
Bagels by Us
Bagels by Us flies a shipment of H&H in 3 times a week. While they're not quite as good as the real thing, they come mighty close. Crispy on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside.

Rosenfeld Bagel
Dense and chewy bagels with great cream cheese. Dealing with all of the high schoolers packed in here can be a pain, but they do make a damn good round bread.
-
Bagel Rising
Rising's bagels are on the big, puffy, fluffy side. They aren't very chewy. All-in-all, not my favorite, but they do make the best breakfast sandwich amongst the field. There is always a line out the door on weekends, so prepare for it.

Bruegger's Bagels
Bruegger's is the biggest chain in the Boston area, but they still make a pretty decent bagel. Their bagels are on the small, doughy side and go great with sandwiches.

Finagle a Bagel
I don't really like Finagle's bagels. They're way too big and puffy. They're also not very chewy and the cream cheese is forgettable.
