Created by: Chrispy

Stadium Cinemas may be taking over, but there is still a niche for those small time movie houses and there are still a bunch thriving in the Boston area.

"The Coolidge" as it refers to itself is one of the premiere cinemas in the Boston area. You won't see the summer blockbusters coming here, but they do carry some big-name Hollywood movies and there is no better place to watch them than on the historic main screen.

This cinema in Davis Square also has a lot of history. They have a combination of indie films and the big blockbusters. The main screen is very nice, but the smaller rooms also are great.

You'll also find live music and big name concerts here (Bruce Springsteen played here a few years back)

Kendall Square is a Landmark Cinema so while not technically independent, it focuses exclusively on indie and art house flicks. They have a good number of foreign films too. Great popcorn!

  • neight says: Coolidge is a great place to watch a movie, but the movies they bring in just don't do it for me. Somerville is super cheap, brings in great films and the main theater is one of the best places to watch a movie. Period.
