Teatro Nuevo México (TNM), New Mexico's premiere Latino theater company, was formed in 2003 by veteran actors, playwrights, directors, designers, and community activists. We are part of a national resurgence of Latino theater, building opportunities for positive representation of Latino cultures. TNM's mission is to present unique Latino perspectives of humanity through theater, multi-arts and community outreach. TNM Purposes include: Expressing unique visions of Latino theater as interpreted by actors, writers, directors and producers. Interpreting non-Latino classic and contemporary plays from the perspective of Latino artists. Forming inter cultural bonds through performances with artists and companies from around the globe. Traveling to urban and rural New Mexican communities using traditional and non-traditional performance venues. Incorporating into artistic events all the rich and vibrant artistic traditions and resources of our community including poetry, music, dance, literature, and visual arts. Creating community outreach programs which nourish the rich artistic potential of all New Mexicans. Our belief in cultivating new talent and audiences is infused with the memory of José R. Rodriguez, actor, director, playwright and long a vibrant force for theater in New Mexico.
