Steve’s Prince of Steaks was founded by Steven Iliescu in 1980. His empire began on the corner of Bustleton and St Vincent in Northeast Philadelphia, where he saw his dream of becoming “The Prince” turn into a reality. In 1992, Steve’s Prince of Steaks was voted “Best Cheesesteak” by Philadelphia Magazine in its Best of Philly issue. On November 27th 1998, the Philadelphia Eagles decided to bake the “Worlds Largest Cheesesteak,” for the Guinness Book of World Records. The steak itself was 365feet long and was made by 22 local cheesesteak restaurants, all competing to be the Best of the Biggest. In the end, Steve’s Prince of Steaks was crowned the winner!

Best in Philly you have to try one of these and you be the judge. Whenever I'm out late and need a cheese steak on the way home Steve's is the place to go. Genos' and Pat's that's where the tourist go they haven't tried a real steak yet. A Steve's steak you don't have to fight with your steak and you don't have any of that nasty FAT.
I really don't understand all the hype about pats and genos, steves is soo much better than the two combined!
There are many great sandwiches at the other places; schmitter, pork at tony lukes; chopped at Del's...but the absolute bezt cheesesteak is steves, not question about it.spcy fry, cherry, liq amer, hotsauce
Best steak, you know it is a great piece of meat when you don't have to chop it up to hide the lower quality of the meat
BEST STEAK IN PHILLY...IF YOU VISIT PHILLY..AND WANT A REAL PHILLY STEAK..DONT GO TO PATS OR GENOS IN SOUTH PHILLY.....ITS GARBAGE....GOT TO STEVES IN THE NE....YOU WONT BE SORRY..
Might be the best thing i have ever tasted, and those roasted hot peppers are the best!!!!
How could any of you people have one bad thing to say about Steves KING of steaks! It blows pats and gino's away! C'mon, american cheese in cheese whiz form, and the steak isn't all cheap with stringy hard meat like pats and gino's. It is by far the most delicious cheese steak
I never smelled anything as good as walking up the street to Steve's, but the steak was very disappointing.
It's more of a northeast thing so its not as known as the big three...but it's just as good and a little cheaper with less lines.
Worth the trip. Steve serves the traditional classic -- thinly sliced prime beef, with Whiz -- better than anyone else in town.
I have tried almost all the steak shops on this list, some I would n ever eat again, some if in that neighborhood I would eat them. But Steve's Prince of Steaks is the only one that I would drive out of my way to eat their cheese steak. It is made of the best quality beef. I now have a friend that lives in NY and when they come down for a visit they ask when we going to Steve's?
The steak and cheese are perfect, but the thing that puts them over the top of other cheese steaks is the rolls.
They are the best in northeast Philly. I have been eating them since they opened back in the 80's they have the best steak sandwich meat and fries around.
