Over the past sixteen seasons, SpeakEasy Stage Company has distinguished itself as Boston's premier theater staging Boston premieres. A resident theater company at the Boston Center for the Arts, SpeakEasy has won acclaim for presenting top-quality productions of vital, cutting-edge plays and musicals that might not otherwise have played the Hub. SpeakEasy also prides itself on providing a comfortable and nurturing environment in which Boston-based actors and designers can ply and hone their craft. Since October, 2004, we have made our home in the intimate 209-seat Nancy and Edward Roberts Studio Theatre in the Stanford Calderwood Pavilion at the Boston Center for the Arts in the city's historic and hip South End.

SpeakEasy Stage Company certainly has the best combination of talented actors and directors, a wide spectrum of plays, boldness, creativity, and a great venue for watching. Never boring... always fun... it's a big-theater experience with a small-theater intimate setting. Why go to New York?

From Take Me Out to the Kiss of the Spider Woman and currently to Caroline or Change, the SpeakEasy has provided Boston audiences with outstanding productions of plays that one would think would be impossible to produce in such a limited space. It's an incredible asset to the city and all the people who love the theater.

We have been season subscribers to the speakeasy and other companies. But, every play at the speakeasy is wonderful. Not so much at other subscription theaters.

This small company does a lot with little tech help. Their musicals have had great casts and good live music. They've done many "New England Premieres" of small cast shows that might not otherwise be seen outside of New York.

The Speak Easy Company is an exciting venue for new works produced in Boston. The Box Office personal make it so easy to change tickets. I am so excited by next year's promising production. For the Boston theater season of 2006-2007, Speak Easy offers the most exciting new plays in the community.
