The Somerville Theatre is located in Davis Square Somerville. In addition to the recently renovated original auditorium (a 900 seat ornate picture palace with balcony, stage, and huge screen) the Somerville also has 4 smaller cinemas, all designed with style. The film programming is a mix of first-run movies (at $7.00 on evenings and weekends, it is the cheapest place in Boston to see a new movie, even if all the folks paying $9.25 in Harvard Square haven't figured it out yet), plus some second-run, art-house, and specialty schedules. Home of the Independent Film Festival of Boston, the 24-hour Boston Sci-Fi Marathon, and of course numerous live events. The projection staff are trained professionals, all members of the local projectionists union, so film presentations are generally superior to any of the movie houses downtown. The concession stand features freshly popped corn and is served with real butter. They also sell many kinds of candy, tea, and coffee. Starting in April, the Somerville Theatre will be the only movie theater in the Boston area that sells beer and wine - soon you will be able to take a beer with you to the movies! The staff is friendly, but not in a fake corporate way - and unlike some indie theaters, there is no pretense about the place - it still has that 'Somerville' feel to it. Many of the staff have been there for a while - not a lot of changeover, which is a good thing here.

Can't beat it. Great movies, low prices and amazing live entertainment, too! Plus I love their popcorn and now you can get beer, too!
Someville Theatre is AWESOME! Renovation looks great!!! Awesome concerts and shows and movies and staff, LOVE this place!
This old, beautifully restored historic theater has so much charm and ambiance that attending one of the many varied shows it offers is enhanced by the surroundings.
Not only is its history fascinating, the recent renovations to the main hall and lobby have truly made this theatre the gem of Somerville. Who can beat the prices and selection of films and performances? Hollywood even turns out for the annual Indep. Film Festival, and North and South Shore residents come out for shows there to get a classic experience not found in today's movie megaplexes.
The Somerville Theatre hosts the annual Independent Film Festival of Boston! Also hosts many live acts. Bruce Springsteen, Nelly Furtado, Kevin Spacey, Joan Baez, Joey McIntyre, Eliza Dushku, Will Arnett, Steve Buschemi, John Waters, Five For FIghting, Rob Corddry and many others have come here!
Best prices, with old school charm...right off the mbta...great staff and wonderful new lobby renovations..
The popcorn is the best! (Made on a vintage machine). Their friendly and productive staff also make it fun : ) Ian and Kim rule!!!
All the good movies end up being shown at this wonderful alternative to the local multiplexes - I see most movies here!
