The Shakespeare Theatre Company presents groundbreaking, thought-provoking and eminently accessible classic theatre in a uniquely American style. Heralded as “the nation’s foremost Shakespeare company” by The Wall Street Journal and “the best classical theatre in the country, bar none” by The Christian Science Monitor, the Shakespeare Theatre Company annually produces five plays in its 451-seat theatre in Washington, D.C.’s Pennsylvania Quarter and one free play in Rock Creek Park’s 3700-seat Carter Barron Amphitheatre. On October 1, 2007, the Shakespeare Theatre Company will open the Harman Center for the Arts, featuring the Company's current 451-seat Lansburgh Theatre and the new 776-seat Sidney Harman Hall. The Harman Center for the Arts will be home to the Shakespeare Theatre Company and many of Washington's distinguished performing arts companies.

It brings classic work to life in a way that everyone can understand. Old English is hard to comprehend sometimes and STC allows young and old to see brilliant theatre in a manner everyone can comprehend.
The quality of their work makes them the best. They work very hard to make great art. They are also a staple of the community, providing classical theatre to all.
