I've known the Sevens since about....1980. When I worked at the Mass Eye & Ear for a decade, it was where I ate lunch almost everyday. During the day, a quiet spot where good conversation with the regulars and (during the summer, particularly) the many international tourists who drop in is easy and a pleasure. The bar may belong to the owner....but the space belongs to Lily, the long-time server who is just as smart, funny, and pretty as she was....well, when she started to work there, quite a few years ago. Some may write her off as "spacey..." Well: she's not. Quirky? Yes, and charmingly so. And, if needs be, she can keep order. But during her shifts--the days--this is a quiet, friendly, spot to read, talk, or think. At night: well, it's small, and loud, and packed. Both crowds seem to have a good time. And anyplace that is pretty much just as good as it was (and pretty much the same!) almost 30 years after you first knew it: well, that's remarkable.
Cheers! (no, not that one: this place is for real! I mean: see you there).

I'm there every Tuesday, love the simple grilled cheese. Buddy, John, Jimmy, Tamara, Lily--best staff on the planet. Friendly and welcoming, I'd never go to another place in the neighborhood.
