It is our professional duty to order lots of appetizers when dining out, but you, as a civilian, need not do the same, and we'd advise you to keep your choices to a minimum - not because they aren't good, but because the huge servings may kill your appetite for the main courses to follow. We had a plate of mandioca ($4) - fried yucca - large enough for six, golden, crispy chunks of starchy root, tender and white inside. Camarao alho e oleo ($5.99) could be an entree for light appetites: eight garlicky shrimp atop a pile of skinny french fries, topped with a salty sprinkling of pungent browned garlic. A hearts of palm salad ($6) brought a huge platter of lettuce top with a mound of tart, pale slices of hearts of palm, along with tomatoes, carrots and baby corn.
