Café Belo’s story starts in 1997. Hildo Costa opened a small snack bar in Allston, MA. Pao de queijo (cheese buns) and fried biscuits with sugar cane juice were the most popular snacks ordered. There were so many clients visiting the snack bar that it only made sense to start offering full meals! However, the place was so small that no tables fit. He solved the problem by setting up a buffet along the small stove where he offered several meats, so that customers could serve themselves and take their food home or to their offices. Slowly but surely, the “pay your food by the kilo” concept started hitting Boston. A general acceptance and excitement became so widespread that a larger, well-structured place was necessary. Fortunately, they found a place just on the other side of the road! In April 1999, on Brighton Ave, the first Café Belo was born: a self-service “Churrascaria”, offering a variety of meats. Thanks to such success, the second Café Belo opened in Somerville, catering to the fans that lived across the Charles River and were accustomed to travel in order to dine at the restaurant in Allston. In 2007 they opened two restaurants, in Framingham and Curitiba, Brazil. Today, Café Belo is proud to offer their customers larger restaurants, with great infrastructure and excellent service. You won’t know which is best; their wonderful customer service, the quality of their produce or their fantastic locations.
