"Art with a caiptal A" The New York Times Synetic Theater seeks to advance and enrich the theater arts through its unique performance style of a synthesis of the arts, fusing the classical elements of drama, movement, dance, mime, and music into a distinct form of non-realistic theater. The theatrical style of Synetic Theater lends itself beautifully to cross-cultural performances, and the company plans to share their work and vision with people from around the world. Classika Theatre is geared toward audiences of all ages with the goal of involving children in the magic of theater at an early age. “An enchanting confection for both youngsters and adults” (Washington Post). The theatre also features a Puppet Series which brings this complicated and beautiful art form to life for family audiences. Designed to build a genuine passion for the arts in the youngest audience ages four and up, these productions use life-size, shadow puppets, and table puppets and marionettes.

Edgy staging, edgy interpretations, edgy characters, edgy characterizations. I love theater that is naughty, adventurous, sexy and sexual and erotic. that is why i have 4 season tickets to Classika and no other theater in DC.

Paata and irna Tsikurishvili (Zee-koor-ish-VEE-lee) have sexed up Oscar Wilde’s Salome, exposed the demonic core of Dracula, relayed The Master and Margarita into a landscape of supernatural gesture, and rendered Hamlet well-nigh wordless. "American Theater"

I enjoy these productions because they combine opera, music, dance, and theater, and they are integrated with highly original sets and lighting. Each program I have attended has been unique: imaginative, artistic, and spellbinding as performed by the highly professional and skilled groups. The patrons' experiences are expanded by your originality.

These are the most dedicated theatre artists working in the national capital area. They spend more time and energy creating their unique brand of movement, dance, music and drama. They have excelled in comedy, with works such as "Crackpots," in tragedy, with "Hamlet," in fantasy, storytelling and exciting theatre with works such as "Dracula," "Faust" and "Salome," always creating original new works.

I love theater, and go regularly to Signature Theater and Classika-Synetic. I have rarely missed a performance at Synetic in the past three years. They have such tremendous visual impact, the staging and movement are innovative and fascinating, and their approach to the theme or story line is always thought-provoking and leads one to want to see the program again. I have seen several of them twice in one season.

I'm not a fan of dance or mime, but those skills enable the members of Synetic Theater to do amazing things with their bodies. They convey so much while saying so little. They're like Cirque du Soleil with a literary twist!

The combination mime/acting is so dramatic - I love it! Plus, excellent children's shows - a great intro to the theater. And this, coming from someone whose child's first show was the one Classika did where they had a fire drill (ok, so that wasn't so great). But immortal!

While I have not seen the children's theatre productions provided by Classika-Synetic Theater, I have seen their productions of "Faust," "The Dybbuk," and "Dracula." They are minimalist in appearance, allowing the considerable talent of the actors & dancers to shine through. They have made these formidable works accessible without sacrificing the true tone, or even the true content, of the material, and have an unparalleled talent for darker productions (see again: Faust or Dracula) without coming across as campy. Fabulous company, excellent productions, and overall an impressive troupe to have in our area.
