The Whale & Ale is the only Authentic British Restaurant in the South Bay of Los Angeles; In fact the only one between Santa Monica and Fullerton, entirely oak-paneled, - it has a long oak bar with brass fittings and a balcony overlooking the grand piano lounge. In San Pedro’s downtown dining area, the Whale & Ale features live music on Friday & Saturday nights, and ever-popular Prime Rib of Beef with Yorkshire Pudding, many delicious cuts of Fresh Fish, English Pub items daily like Fish and Chips (using Icelandic Cod in a Bass Ale batter), Shepherd’s Pie and Bangers & Mash. Vegetarians enjoy a menu page, with pastas, eggplant dishes and a House Salad that has become famous in the area. Add to this a line up of thirteen British, Irish and Californian ales and ciders on tap, a log fireplace and you'll see why the Whale & Ale has won too many culinary awards in the last eleven years to begin listing here. Live music is regularly featured in the evenings, visit their website www.whaleandale.com for details. Artists are the core of Old Town in San Pedro, and on the First Thursday evening of each month, spend the evening in downtown San Pedro poking through the shops, visiting artists' galleries and running into old friends. Activities include: stores open late, street vendors and artisans, excellent food offerings from all the area restaurants most of which (including the Whale & Ale), offer free live music every First Thursday. The art galleries of Downtown San Pedro present several showcases, featuring some of the brightest young artists as well as some of the most respected masters. Merchants and vendors are open late offering unique gift ideas for that special someone. The Whale & Ale can be found in the fun area of San Pedro (the business/dining/art gallery district). Its menu has grown to include many new dishes like, Beef Wellington in Périgourdine Sauce, Rosemary/Dijon baked rack of lamb, Salmon and grilled Swordfish.
