Come and Visit us for Holidays at the History Center. December 1 -19th! The 14 founders of the Atlanta History Center could not have envisioned their future impact when in 1926 they formed what was then known as the Atlanta Historical Society. Beginning as a group of civic-minded Atlantans – led by prominent attorney Walter McElreath and meeting in each other’s homes, collecting early manuscripts and photos, and publishing research bulletins to “arouse in the citizens and friends of Atlanta an interest in history” – it has turned into a primary source of Atlanta, regional and national history. Discover the History of the South through award-winning exhibitions, two historic homes, acres of beautiful gardens, research facilities, and midtown campus housing the Margaret Mitchell House and Museum

There are some things that just can't be captured in the words of a text book. The Atlanta History Center provides us with an interesting venue to explore our Atlanta history and helps us find out more about our founding mothers and fathers. In addition the events held at the AHC are consistently fabulous and well organized!
The people that work here work very, very hard to make this place a cool place to visit
The Atlanta History Center is the place that I ALWAYS take visitors because it is the very best way to understand and learn more about Atlanta, Georgia, and the south. Their Civil War exhibit is one of the best in the world, the six gardens with different themes are spectacular. It is an entertaining and fascinating place to spend time.
Because they are the best with awesome exhibits, friendly staff and a wonderful location!! Love visiting this museum!!
I have never seen a museum with a farm, animals, a mansion, and numerous exhibits (interactive ones).
The Swan House is a must see for any history buff and the demonstrations in the other building are very eye opening!
The facility provides a great atmosphere and the exhibitions are great. I also like the special programs like the Blues concerts and the living history programs.
Don't let the name deceive you! What's great about the Atlanta History Center is that it's not just about the history of Atlanta. They offer a wonderful variety of exhibits and programs on national, international, and cross-cultural topics.
I'm a real history buff, and love the city of Atlanta, so the history center has a lot of exhibits that mean a lot to me. I've also gotten a ton of use out of the Kenan research center.
My aunt helped launch the Atlanta History Center so of course it's the best in all of Atlanta!
The Atlanta History Center has one of the best Civil War collections with detailed information about the items. The Swan House Museum is a wonderful house to tour which gives the visitors a chance to see how the well-to-do Atlantan's live.
Provides wonderful history of Georgia and has great special exhibits ie. Ben Franklin at the present.
The Atlanta always has a nice variety of exhibits that are appealing to visitors of all ages. My family loves to visit the museum!
The Atlanta History Center is a comprehensive museum that has had some of the most exciting exhibits that this city has ever seen. From the King Papers which brought international attention to the city to the Olympic museum and the Ben Franklin exhibit, the Atlanta History Center continues to be on the cutting edge.
The museum center offers a wide variety of events and exhibits. The grounds are beautiful, and the exhibits are appropriate for members of all ages. The Swann house is an interesting look at affluent life in the late 1920's.
The Atlanta History Center showcases Atlanta in some of its finest moments like no other place in Atlanta!
My favorite thing about the museum is how welcome my children are. It is hard to find a place where children can learn to appreciate the past and feel welcome at the same time.
The Atlanta History Center firmly establishes Atlanta's identity and the role Atlanta has played in the history of the United States past and present. When you visit the AHC you know you have connected the dots between the city Atlanta was, the city it has become, the city it will become and the city's influence on the international scene.
We have taken our grandchildren to the AHC, and every time they have come away with newfound knowledge of their community and an energy and enthusiasm to continue learning about the city and the community.
I'm a native Atlantan now living in Washington DC. My friends call me the other famous Margaret of Atlanta because I work at the National Weather Service and really did go with the wind. Anyways, I think of Atlanta nearly every day while I'm in DC and the place I miss the most is the Atlanta History Center. From the cobblestones in the entrance to the exhibits featuring what made Atlanta the worldclass city it is, nothing creates better memories for those who are Atlanta natives.
It is the best resource in town for info about Atlanta history. Exhibits such as Ben Franklin, WW II ,Olympic Games, and Civil War are examples of outstanding attractions.Tullie Smith, and Swan House are wonderful sites. And activities such as book signings, lectures, and school programs are very well done.
They bring Atlanta History to life for Atlanta citizens and visitors alike. It is easy to spend day in the history center and still not see everything. The membership that I obtained is really worth the money, since there are always many things going on. They are very careful in choosing exhibits that will bring visitors back to our rich past and historical treasures, creating new adventures each time.
The exhibits are usually excellent, the Civil War being one of the best in the nation. The garden is soothing and restful after spending the time in the exhibits. And most important, members are exposed to very good programs throughout the year.
The AHC is absolutely great, from the people who sell tickets to the tour docents at the Tullie Smith House. I love the whole atmosphere of being way out in the country!
The museum educators are the best in the state!! Plus, the Aquarium isn't even a museum.
Outstanding exhibitions and research facilities, beautiful gardens, the absolute best schedule of programs, lectures, book signings, children's' activities in the country and all with a VERY small but highly intelligent and devoted staff. This institution is a national treasure.
I think they have the premier Civil War exhibit in the South. I never get tired of going back and seeing it again and again.
As a history teacher, this institution is invaluable! It is a treasure to Atlanta and the nation, especially for exhibits about our state history, southern history, and the nation. The MLK and now Ben Franklin Exhibits were/are amazing. Plus, Julie rules!
Great assortment of exhibits and wonderful people, large and inviting layout and a great cafe out back!
Everything about this museum is right--easy parking, warm atmosphere, just the right size to take in a exhibit without feeling overwhelmed. A bonus--the blues concerts!
The AHC has become one of Atlanta's best attractions! Fantastic exhibits, local Atlanta history, and a real live working Piedmont-style farm, not to mention the gorgeous Swan House!
They are the best because Their Living History area, Tulley Smith Farm is excellent. The costuming there is some of the best I have ever seen.
INCREDIBLE exhibits! History about our GREAT city of Atlanta and wonderfully friendly staff.....you will LOVE the museum!! Stop by and see what all the 'Buzz' is about :)
