Having played bars, joints and dives from New York's CBGB's and Brooklyn's Trash Bar to the hometown Abbey Lounge, I can honestly attest to the fact that this is one of the most authentically rockin' places on the planet.

It's got four black walls, sweet kickin' sound with people behind the board who know how to use it and a bar that serves real drinks. What the hell else do you need?

I used to play in a place called A7, where occasionally bands like The Bad Brains would show up and bodies would start flyin'. Kind of reminds me of that, but with a significantly less lobotomous vibe.

One of the hardest things in the world is to actually define what makes great rock, let alone a great rock dive. With Abbey Lounge, it's not an issue; the place itself is that definition.

My favorite venue in the Boston area!
Names may change but the front door is the same.

Ross Phazor is a legendary Boston band from the 1980's however they were not an "80's band". They were a 90's band that existed in the 1980's. Ross Phazor frequently ruled the Abbey Lounge, formerly known as "Club 3" back in the 1980's.

Look for the return of Ross Phazor soon at Abbey Lounge for "Club 3 revisited"

I'm an out-of-towner but was impressed. Great place to listen to live music -- laid back, friendly atmosphere. The bands were great the night I was there, esp. The Other Girls.

Easily the best in the area. Good bands, cheap beer, friendly staff, great sound, no attitude. They put a lot of effort into helping local music, and it shows.

The Abbey has a good sound system, is big enough for a good group of people, but small enough to feel intimate, and offers cheap drinks. What more could a club goer want?

The Abbey Lounge has created a real sense of community within the Boston music scene. The club is open to showcasing new bands, and is generally very supportive of local music. The staff there are some of the nicest and most knowledgeable about Boston music in all of the area. As well, the general vibe of the club is welcoming, friendly, and feels almost like a family type atmosphere where everyone knows each other but is welcoming to newcomers. It's the only place in town that I might just show up without knowing what band is even playing that night, just to grab a beer and hang out; I know I'll always see some good music there and meet some fellow music nerds who will become new friends.
