From the day in 1950 when George Berkowitz opened a fish market next to his father's grocery store in Inman Square in Cambridge, MA, the Legal name has been synonymous with quality and freshness. This humble seafood market was named after his father Harry’s “Legal Cash Market” where customers were given “Legal Stamps” (the forerunner to S & H green stamps) with their purchases. Now under the leadership of Roger Berkowitz, George’s son, Legal operates over 30 family-owned restaurants from Boston, MA to Florida and a mail order business. For three generations, the Berkowitz family has continued this tradition of serving the highest quality, freshest fish for a great value. We are committed to these values as we head into the future.

I love their lobster and clam chowder. Just don't go there if you have a time restraint.
If you want fresh, cooked to perfection seafood, especially the fried clams, visit the Chestnut Hill location.
Consistent fresh, high quality seafood!
I just started going back to Legals, after trying many other places for a meal out with my children. they are always accommodating and an adult can have just as much fun as a child. The adults can have their "grown-up" cocktails and gourmet entrees, and the children, their chocolate milk and chicken fingers with coloring book to-boot. The wait-staff is truly extraordinary. Even on a very busy weekend night, you will probably only have to wait a max of 20 minutes and you can wander the nearby shops while waiting for your buzzer to go off. Most importantly, I think, is that it does not feel like a chain restaurant.
I love the marinated calamari salad with white beans and also the blue fish with mustard -OH, of course the hot rolls!

their seafood casserole is the best ever, their wait staff is great, the other food is wonderful, with a warm and welcoming environment.

I could not vote for them as every time I have gone there the lobsters are over cooked, steamers taste like rubber and the chowder is like paste I have been to 3 different locations and all are the same. Sorry

Hands down, no question, the BEST chowder I have ever tasted, and I have tried many!!! I'd say many others agree, as it is #1 in the standings so far. When you are that good, there is nothing much else to say........

I don't care whether or not Legal serves the chowdah at the inauguration. It's the best, ever!
This is the best - always fresh, great for kids - my daughters will actually sit through the whole meal here. Wait staff are friendly. Cannot say enough good things about this place.
