New England Aquarium

On June 20, 1969 the New England Aquarium opened its doors to the public for the first time. The Aquarium was designed to provide an underwater experience for the visitor, and also to be a cultural institution that would reconnect Boston to its waterfront. In its more than 35 years, the Aquarium has grown a great deal. In line with its mission to "Present, Promote and Protect the World of Water," the Aquarium educates, entertains and reaches out to visitors in order to help them better understand the beauty and fragility of aquatic life and environments. Aquarium highlights include the 200,000-gallon Giant Ocean Tank that houses sharks, stingrays, giant seaturtles and more; the penguin exhibit that spans much of the first floor and features more than 60 penguins from three different species; the Simons IMAX® Theatre, home of the largest movie screen in New England; a seasonal Aquarium Whale Watch taking passengers straight from Boston's waterfront to one of the largest whale feeding grounds in the world; and much more.

They have striped Bass and Blue Fish in their own tank. When you see these amazing fish that live in our waters in Massachusetts you will want to keep our waters clean so they can thrive. Thanks to the Aquarium for cleaning up our waters and teaching kids how to keep the waters clean
NEAq is educational, chock full of many types of marine life, clean, and safe, and that education spews over to the NEAq's IMAX films. And, who doesn't like fish?
The New England Aquarium is an intriguing place to visit and work. As a visitor educator to this institution, my vote is undoubtedly biased, but rightly cast. Whether one is more interested in penguins or mandarin fish (my recommendation), there are several nifty exhibits that make learning about marine life more interesting than any textbook or video. Additionally, it provides a great experience for all age groups.
It's all about the penguins! Oh, and rescuing wounded animals. And those beauuuutiful jellies. And the wild and crazy seahorse things that look like a bunch of sticks. But, we still love the penguins most of all!
They have the best whale watch trips! Also like their cafe (good food at best prices in the area) and fun gift shop (best T-=shirts in Boston!). They have a huge jellyfish exhibit now and it's mesmerizing. Here's a photo of a moon jelly.
I am 7 years old.I can see the sea world in New England Aquarium.I don't need to dive in the deep sea. And it's educational place.
Besides enjoying the Aquarium, itself, it's all the other things they do to help wildlife that impresses me. It's a wonderful place.
It's a LIVING museum, so there's something new and different every day. The aquarium's environmental message is clear and makes a deep impression. Go early or late in the day and you can commune with the animals.
The NEAQ is a fun place to take the family anytime! There's always something different to see. We have been members for 4 years now and always enjoy our visit.
The Aquarium does so much good work that many do not know about. They even travel to the Cape to help in mass stranding in the muddle of the winter. Take it from one who has been there, it is no fun to be in the middle of a northeaster rescuing stranded animals and they accomplish this with great results. Their public education program on so many levels is outstanding. From educators in the Aquarium, to outside programs with groups, to rescuing marine animals. Way to go NEAQ !
The aquarium is the best because it has a great number of fish & birds that kids & adults from the city can go & learn about wildlife, nature, & the importance of saving wildlife.
It doesn't matter that we've been through every inch 100 times, we always learn something new!
The NEAq has a staff that is dedicated to the nurturing and preservation of many aquatic species and are interested in educating the public in enhancing and preserving these animals livelihoods. Thank you so much for caring NEAq staff!!!
I've interned the past 2 summers in the penguin department and everyone involved at the NEAQ is amazing!
They really know how to make things kid friendly and the exhibits are beautiful and well kept.
Changing displays supported with explanations by the aquarium staff and a regular lecture series on related topics.
Because they are pro-active in their work not only introducing people to the wonderful world of marine life but helping to ensure it will be there for the generations that follow us.
The aquarium allows visitors the opportunity to see such a wide variety of marine life in a truly beautiful and stimulating environment.
Not only to I think it's the best in Boston but the Best on the whole east coast
This is a museum that you can visit over and over again and has something for everyone in the family.
they are the friendliest bunch in Boston! great customer service and always a smile.
The aquarium is so much fun to visit! You could spend days in there and not get bored. Plus the staff is very friendly and helpful.
NEA is the best because they have so many cool animals. The penguins, the seals, the huge turtle. And theres always something going on their that is fun and exciting for the whole family. Staff is energetic and willing to help and wants people to know what they know.
Great way to spend an afternoon - the exhibits are interesting, the penguins are fun to watch, and the large tank is awesome
Fabulous exhibits combined with engaging education and state of the art research
It connects people to the world that we normally can't be a part of without "special equipment." The staff at the Aquarium are also very helpful & energetic
