The original MFA opened its doors to the public on July 4, 1876, the nation's centennial. Built in Copley Square, the MFA was then home to 5,600 works of art. Over the next several years, the collection and number of visitors grew exponentially, and in 1909 the Museum moved to its current home on Huntington Avenue. Today the MFA is one of the most comprehensive art museums in the world; the collection encompasses nearly 450,000 works of art. We welcome more than one million visitors each year to experience art from ancient Egyptian to contemporary, special exhibitions, and innovative educational programs.

Although I get lost there...they could use are really good location map, the place is amazing: everything from Egyptian Art to Medieval Tapestries to Colonial to Neon.
Given the size of the city of Boston, the diversity and depth of the MFA is astounding.
All events and exhibits are unique, stylish, and classy! Nothing is ever missing from events at the MFA. A must-see for anyone visiting Boston!
The MFA in Boston is home to some of the finest and most famous pieces of art in the world. I could spend months in this museum and never get bored. Each time I go there I see something I have never noticed before, and I "fall into" the beauty and spirit of the piece, whether it is ancient or contemporary. People come from all over the world to visit this museum. I have been a member since 1973, and I plan to remain one until I am physically unable to go there. The depth, variety, and artistic quality of the MFA collections and special exhibitions are unequaled anywhere else in New England.
Boston is small, the MFA is huge & I mean that in every way. It's a treasure all Bostonians should support & cherish.
MFA membership is the best deal in the city. Members get free tickets for all of the shows which are wonderfully done. It's a great place to go for a quick lunch or an elegant meal. The art collection is fantastic.
superior collection of art of many periods with special exhibitions of considerable note
I always love the MFA. No matter what I never get bored there, the exhibits are always amazing. I especially loved the recent 'Paris Fashion Show'
They have a very good variety, accommodate children as well as adult art lovers. Their changing exhibits are terrific.
MFA has a wide variety of exhibitions for all tastes, the signage is good and the quality high. In addition it offers terrific in depth courses, a great film program and good restaurants. Most importantly it is easily reached by public transportation.
Never can be bored wandering through any gallery at the MFA; special exhibitions are well-organized and curated.
This is world class! Hard to pick between BMFA and the Isabella Stewart Gardner as they are both great.
