Excellent selection of only high-quality reading. You can always trust that anything you find on their shelves will be worthwhile. Convenient locations throughout DC area.
You can find CDs and books which you have not seen elsewhere. Knowledgeable staff can recommend off the beaten path items. This bookstore educates!
Knowledgeable staff, excellent selection -- and their various stores are NOT all the same, as they reflect the personalities of the manager/buyer/staff. Unless I simply can't get to one (wish they'd open one farther out toward Vienna!) I'll always try Olsson's first!
By far the most knowledgeable and helpful staff! They also have the best computer system for checking stock, etc.
They not only carry all the books I'd ever want, but they'll even sponsor my local book club, AMD offer refreshments to keep me quenched and satisfied while I shop and read!
The people! The staff and Joe Murphy's columns in the newsletter! The service, the knowledge, the creativity -- they always have excellent suggestions because they really take the time to get to know me and my family.
The people who work at Olsson's actually know books. They can answer questions about books without consulting a computer. They won't ask me how to spell Anne Fadiman's "Ex Libris." They read the books they stock. And they stock the best. They are one of us.
Olsson's always has a great selection of mainstream and out of the way books, and the staff is always knowledgeable and helpful. Many times their book and music recommendations are wonderful. I just miss the Bethesda store. I did all my shopping there.
Over the years that I have visited the stores and bought books, I found the staff courteous, and acknowledgeable about books and shelves stocked with what I was seeking or would order promptly for me. The readings by authors is the best in the area.
I appreciate the extra effort the staff will put into finding/securing copies of books I haven't been able to obtain from other stores. Their book authors series are diverse and interesting. I am a big fan of their online notices, particularly for the personal and personable Joe Murphy's commentary. My biggest concern was/is that the bigger discount stores would drive the more personal Olsson's out of business, so I am pleased that I am not the only person who gets the difference.
Olsson's has wonderful guest authors, a knowledgeable and helpful staff, and a good weekly newsletter.
Great eclectic selection of books, knowledgeable staff, friendly no-fuss atmosphere, continual round of interesting guest-authors and musicians, cute cafe, GREAT sales!!
Olsson's Books and Records has a very well rounded collection, the personnel have always been very helpful, and, if a specific book or CD is not in a store, receiving an ordered item has always been quick.
