My old North Cambridge haunts
Created by: neight
I used to work over in North Cambridge and still hold a number of places near and dear to my heart.
-
Verna's Coffee and Donut Shop
Iced coffee in the morning (year round baby!) and free donuts in the afternoon? The staff are just delightful -- vastly knowledgeable about everything Cambridge, always friendly.
This place probably shaved 2-3 years off my life, but to this point, I'd say it has been worth it. -
Greek Corner
Good, cheap, quick Greek food. I haven't gotten any of the more complicated plates, but they have good spanikopita, falafel, gyros and grape leaves. Good greek salad too.
Don't expect anyone to want to make out with you afterwards, they load on the garlic like no one else. No combination of gum and breath mints will save you, trust me. -
Grand Prix Café
Killer lattes. Overpriced, but funky and friendly. Always got F1 or Italian soccer on the TV.
-
Pemberton Farms
A very nice gourmet market with an awesome deli counter. Good sandwiches (Boars Head), prepared food items (pasta salads, meats), and a salad bar that rivals anything Whole Foods could do.
-
Thai & Mandarin Kitchen
Home of the $5.50 lunch special. Food is anything but spectacular, but cheap and non-greasy Chinese/Thai food is always welcome.
-
Hair International
Friendly hair salon run by two sisters. Very cheap and reasonably good cuts.
