Meltdown Comics opened for business in 1993, right around the time you were getting really tired of hearing White Zombie’s THUNDER KISS ’69. The store was born out of love, as many direct sales comic book stores are, but it mutated to fit what Hollywood needed; a new joint where you could find what you came in to look for instantly, a place where your friends could meet to throw some dice or turn a card or two, a bright punk rock star in the firmament that spread the good word of artistic ink and collectable vinyl. At 9000 square feet, Meltdown is the largest pop culture emporium west of the Rockies. It’s ever-shifting stock holds new discoveries for even the most discerning reader and if you are new to the game the dimmest ember of obsession shall be fanned into a great bonfire here. Meltdown’s proprietors have seized every opportunity to upgrade service within the store resulting in unparalleled relationships with vendor and consumer alike. This means that as a customer of Meltdown, you have access to a worldwide network of purveyors of pop and if you don’t see what you want in front of you Meltdown can procure it almost instantaneously. In 2006 Meltdown reconfigured the operation to open the Melt Gallery. What was once a large stockroom has been transformed into a nexus of culture in Los Angeles, featuring well-reviewed group shows from prominent visual artists, lectures and workshops from industry professionals and free performances from some of the city’s most talented comedians, DJs and bands. After 15 years of successful operation, Meltdown has grown into a traveler’s must-see destination and cultural landmark. Meltdown was named Best Comic Store in L.A. by Los Angeles magazine and was honored with the Will Eisner Spirit of Comics Retailer Award. Perhaps most notably, Meltdown Comics was immortalized by becoming a part of the Simpsons universe in the episode “Husbands & Knives” where the store’s design and layout was utilized to show how great a comic book store can be. All that is left for us to do now is find a way to get comics to the International Space Station…and we’re working on it. Everybody mentioned lots of reasons why they're the best, but I'm also a big fan of their events. That Simpson's art exhibit they did a couple months ago was great.
The staff is funny and lovely and the selection of comics will make your head explode, but in the nicest possible way.

Meltdown is NUMBER ONE! They've got comics, graphic novels, art books, vinyl collectibles, and a great selection of mini-comics and indies. They supports local artists and host killer gallery events. Meltdown is the BEST!

No store has a bigger selection or cares more than Meltdown in the United States. Comics, toys, DVDs, art, books, magazines- I could live at Meltdown and never leave.
Great kids books, kid's clothes, love all the Monster 5 clothes for kids, and the hard to find Tin Tin items.
Meltdown has all the books my studio needs and great suggestions for books to make movies from. 5 stars for Meltdown.
The store is well laid out, they have subscription services and the staff is AWESOME! So friendly, helpful, and they RECOGNIZE you week after week (unlike other comic stores in the neighborhood who treat you like you'll drop your money there no matter what.)

It's like Cheers in there. Everybody who works there knows your name, and they're always glad when you come. Its got the best vibe, and one of the biggest selections of geek accoutrement. It rocks so much that even the recent Transformers movies gave them some love. Enough said.

Hey this the best place for comics and hard to find collectibles, and the gallery is the best i have seen.
I've been going to Meltdown since 95, and they've become one of the best places for comic books and collecting!

There is no better comic book store out there. The staff is knowledgeable and kind, the selection is unbeatable, and now they are host to great art shows. It's truly a wonderful place. Words fail me.

By far the best comic book shop in the West Coast, I've been reading comics since I could remember, super great store, awesome events, well stocked from mainstream to indie, plus an awesome asian dvd section (no bootlegs there) and the staff is very knowledgeable more than what i can say about other shops in LA. Meltdown gets my VOTE!!!
