Mayan Theatre

Featuring Denver's finest in independent film and foreign language cinema, the Mayan Theatre is located in the heart of Central Denver amongst a bevy of art galleries, restaurants and vintage clothing stores in the Baker District. The historic Mayan, built in 1930, narrowly missed the wrecking ball in the mid-1980s, when, at the eleventh hour, it was saved by the local group "Friends of the Mayan." In 1986, The Mayan was restored to its former glory. Renovated meticulously at a cost of nearly $2 million, it is one of the country's three remaining theatres designed in the Art Deco Mayan Revival style. It has been converted into a three-screen palace, with one large, magnificent auditorium and two cozy theatres upstairs, featuring stadium seating. There is also an upstairs cafe and seating area.

Have always enjoyed the Mayan theater; love the movies, setting, and comfortable sitting. What makes Denver so great is to have alternative movies we can't see at the regular theaters. I must admit the movies are usually much more interesting than the current movies shown; have such interesting actors and actresses.
This old Denver favorite is definitely my favorite too. I love to see films in the quaint theater with a cocktail; it is truly a piece of Denver history that we can still enjoy today.
Nothing beats the Mayan in the summer the bar makes it even better! Great begal dogs and free posters and postcards.
I love this theatre! Cutting edge movies, comfortable seating in all three theaters, good snacks and a bar. What more could you ask for.
Love it - we have been going for a long time to the Mayan and the spirit of it doesn't get old. It's a staple in the community
Great building. always great movies.. good food.. and the staff is so friendly. glad this place is still around. a true Denver gem - :-)
It is the quintessential neighborhood theatre, updated to serve great wine; fun, friendly, old and entertaining with no megamall -triplex rentacop goons. Always with great new international intelligent film fare, and popcorn powder.
Their works deal with important social issues. Productions are high quality. Provide opportunities for Latino actors.
It's a wonderful, historic building and the atmosphere is perfect for independent films.
The theatre is an architectural gem and the arty film offerings are the best of the independent genre.
Great place, I love the space and love how you can get great drinks and snacks that are unlike most theaters.
The ambiance of the place is unforgettable and the staff is always so friendly and easy going.
Love all the indies, really hard choice, but the Mayan is the one I was first exposed to the indie world.
The architecture inside this theater is exquisite. It makes the movie-going experience so much more rich.
I love this theater, it is sooo nice to enjoy a cocktail while you watch a great movie...
If you want to see GOOD movies in a small, inviting atmosphere. The Mayan is for you. Nestled between other inde establishments on Broadway, the Mayan is an excellent location for an evening out - dinner & a movie - or course. And yes, there's a top-notch bar inside the theater too.
