Bob Haedt and his mother, Lavon, opened the original Great Garb in 1971. Great Garb quickly became one of the major players in the Salt Lake fashion scene, being one of the first to import such well known European labels as Cacherel, Frank Olivier, and Le Painty. They were also the first to carry Calvin Klein, (when Calvin was not a household name.) Great Garb has used "the contemporary shop" as part of its identity and that label still applies.
