Long ago, the task of bringing home the Holiday meal was long and arduous. Good weather, competition, being in the right place at the right time, and just plain luck had a lot to do with what the Holiday Feast would be. The cook had no idea what to expect until the hunter came in through the door. Then came the equally long, hard work to get the Feast prepared. If there had been a good growing season, root vegetables, dried fruits and berries would accompany the meal. Otherwise, the best was made of whatever was available. Some Holidays were much more bountiful than others. We are lucky to live in a time, when life is so much easier for us. Just a phone call or email can get us Turkey, Duck, Goose, Capon, Beef, Crown Roast, or any of a number of other feasts. Whatever we can think of!
