When I lived in New York, I used to go to Ouidad, and then to her protege Christo at Christo Fifth Avenue. I moved to DC in 2004 and after a while, the trips back and forth for cuts and highlights were getting to be too much on my wallet, so I made an appointment at Elie Elie (they were listed on the Ouidad website as trained in her slicing and carving technique). I made an appointment for a haircut and highlights - WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT!!

My hair came out in these choppy layers and my once golden highlights were now streaks of RED - even after I told the "stylist/colorist" that I didn't want brassy/reddish highlights and he assured me he could duplicate the golden color Christo (oh I miss him!) created for me.

When I saw the color on my wet hair - it was apparent even then. I showed it to the stylist and he assured me it was *not* red. I thought maybe I should give my hair a chance to dry completely and the color to set so I shopped a bit. Sure enough, three hours later - my hair was drying to a bright red. I went home, showed my husband the crazy color, and slept on it to see how much more ridiculous it would look in the morning.

The next morning it was obvious my hair was bright red and I called to make an appointment and have the salon correct my color - this time with my MIL, who also agreed it was bright red, in tow. Do you know the stylist STILL denied my hair was red?? Another older female stylist with short hair had to step in and correct the color for him since he was obviously not going to admit he screwed up my hair.

Bottom line - don't go to Elie Elie - especially to the tall, thin, "Certified in Ouidad's technique" guy if you have long curly hair and don't want a stacked, pyramid hairdo.

How great to have someone who knows how to cut and style naturally curly hair. It took over 35 years but I finally found that person - Elie.
