Growing up in the South, it was impossible to avoid a strong connection to the regional foodway of BBQ. From eating at our local joint to my parents yearly pig pickin’s, the flavor and the technique and the associated good fellowship were indelibly w

this is my business

The East Coast Grill opened its doors on August, 18, 1985. At that point it seemed a pretty risky venture. Although my partner, Cary Wheaton, and I had plenty of restaurant experience, we had no business experience. Restaurants have high failure rates and a lot of folks didn’t think Inman Square was that good of a location. And you know what? ECG is a breath of fresh air in the Boston dining scene. A top-notch seafood establishment that doesn't take itself too seriously, yet maintains the highest quality service. They have a full menu with simply prepared fish and great BBQ.

The sporadic hell night weeks throughout the year are a nice bonus, but watch out for the pasta dish, it might kill your taste buds for a few days.

Try the mahi mahi dish with the grilled avocado, pineapple salsa, and plantains. It's all I ever get there. I dream of it! My vegetarian friend Dina from New Orleans swears their veggie platter is the best she's ever found in a restaurant.

Your friendly neighborhood best freakin' restaurant in Boston! Good community members, quality (but not snobby) service, serious commitment to amazing and creative food. The best in town, hands down.
