The Detroit Martial Arts Institute is the ultimate contemporary training facility. Its 7500 square feet facility makes it one of the largest martial arts facilities in Detroit. We instruct Authentic Okinawan Isshinryu Karate to adults, teens and children. Our after school program provides transportation and provides tutors to assist our students prior to their martial arts classes. We also have a wonderful martial arts summer camp that develops rock solid kids . We build confidence, self-esteem, self-control and courage to all of our students. I have known Mr. Woods and Mr. Reynolds for quite a long time. What stands out the most is the consistency of purpose. That is true dedication. Focus and insight are rare qualities in most human beings, but not these two. It is an honor to know them and a joy to see them share and impart those qualities in their students. They know that we are all members of villiage of humanity and that they have to resposibity to insure that they pass the knowledge to the youth thru the best training physically and mentally using the martial arts. It is those qualities that make the school the best place in the city to trust your young and valuble assets to the future of their development as good citizens of the world.
DMAI HAS BEEN A EXCELLENT SCHOOL FOR SELF-DEFENSE TRAINING FOR MY FAMILY AND BUSINESS.
This is a very good dojo with humble instructors who do whatever it takes to help ensure that each student receives the best possible instruction!
MY son, Maurice Brown has been attending the Detroit Martial Arts Institute since Nov 26, 2007. The owners treat me and my family like family. Everyone at the school makes you feel as if you are apart of one big family. I recommend this Martial Arts Institute to everyone, young and old. They are great!
The Detroit Martial Arts Institute is the best school around for teaching children discipline, self-control and responsibility. Their programs are top-notch and run professionally.
They have a family atmosphere that is warm and welcoming from the start. THEY'RE INCREDIBLE!
All I can say is professional and certified instructors, excellent facility, and no nonsense martial art techniques! No time is wasted.- John A. Bostic
Warm, family environment that allows children to be competitive in a positive manner. DMAI is a blessing!
I love what you do with the kids, and for the kids. After-School programs, summer camp, after class training, the parties for the kids. It's just a great place to be.
I love working out there. The people and the atmosphere are great. The location is convenient for my life.
The owners (Woods & Reynolds) truly love the children that attend their school. I know of no other school like this in the city itself.
This Martial Arts Institute is the best because of the family atmosphere they created there. It's much more than just a Karate school, it's a place for inner city kids to go and learn about respect for your fellow man, learn about self respect and not to mention it's keeping a lot of kids off the streets and out of trouble.

The trainer's take an interest in the whole child. The staff are trustworthy and professional.
they are the best because they have the best facilities and the best black belts train you.
The Detroit M.I.A should be named #1 for one reason = Because they are! They have a VERY positive effect on the young ones..and it gives us older ones a better way to defend ourselves rather then resulting to serious violence!
Detroit Martial Arts Institute has been a wonderful addition to the city of Detroit and the community as well. Master Woods & Master Reynolds are the best instructors this dojo has. They been taught very well best one of the greatest martial arts master of all time Grand Master Willie Adams. I've know both Master Woods and Reynolds for almost 20 years when they were at Southfield Martial Arts and their teachings never change one bit. They take the time to help students and black belts get better and better with their martial arts training. Every time I have the opportunity train at D.M.A.I. I always learn something new Master Woods & Master Reynolds which helps me develop into a much better martial artist and black belt instructor. I still have a long way to go but I'm getting there. D.M.A.I. is making a tremendous impact of the youth in the city of Detroit. Not only are they building/developing skills, but they are also building character in these young people. Master Woods & Master Reynolds will always be my top instructors along with such greats like Grand Master Adams, Master Phillips, Master Martin, Master Santilli, Master Schaefer, and Master Dennis.
My kids have learned a tremendous amount of self control and the value of hard work. They recently attended the Grand National Conference in D.C. and the kids felt great coming back winners.
It's a family friendly place, everyone feels welcomed and you learn something new every time you come about defending your self against anyone threatening.
Master Woods used to be my instructor, and he was always my favorite. He was alway willing to help me with whatever I needed, and without his help I don't think I would be a black belt today.
As a martial arts practitioner for over 25 years, I've had the opportunity to train at Detroit Martial Arts and have seen the extensive community involvement they endorse.
My son trained under Master Woods when he was teaching at Southfield Martial Arts a few years ago. I hated to see him leave but it was for a good reason, to bring his expertise and training to Detroit. He not only teaches children martial arts but the importance of education, discipline, values and gives them an opportunity to develop their talents. He has programs that are vital to the growth and development of our inner city children. Keep up the good work Master Woods. I love what you are doing!!
The discipline he teaches the children are number one. Discipline first and not violence.
They are changing the lives of young people and giving them a new direction in life.
They are the only martial arts school that has remained in the City of Detroit, and they sincerely care about its citizens. They were recently named "School of the Year" by the Tennessee Martial Arts Association.
