Head and shoulders above the local competition. As the Selective Echo puts it, "...the undisputed leader in the Salt Lake City market for the art of coffee science."
They roast their own beans, make a mean cappuccino, and I can't say enough about their "Single Origin" coffees, which I find they now offer exclusively brewed on a siphon brewer. There's not enough space to write about how strong their commitment to excellence is, but I travel about 150 days a year and I've come across maybe three or four coffeeshops across North America that are of the same caliber. Phenomenal coffee in Salt Lake-- yes, but you have to go to d'bolla to get it.
Since we've moved to America from Rome, Italy, it's been difficult finding anywhere in Salt Lake that served coffee in any way similar to the espresso we find in Italy. No one seems to know what a real Cafe Macchiato is, Cappuccini seem to be giant latte's with foam stacked on top.. every gulp of burnt/blackened supposed "European Roast" espresso forced us to settle for less. It was by pure chance and luck that we found Cocoa Cafe, and how happy we've been since!
The workers at Cocoa Cafe are all very knowledgeable and eager to learn about coffee. They serve real cafe macchiati in proper sized cups, they'll make an actual 8 oz. single shot cappuccino, and amazingly, they even have authentic Italian hot chocolate! I've never seen another Italian cioccolato caldo machine in Utah before. Try this place, you will not be disappointed.
