Circle Furniture is the finest showroom in the Boston/Cambridge area -- they have fantastic craftmanship and really strong sales. They have all sorts of pieces and a very helpful staff.

IKEA won't sell you furniture that will break in a week. It will give you furniture that will break in about 3 days. Cheap yes, but the quality simply isn't there. We all know this.

Unfinished and affordable furniture that you can apply the final paint or finish yourself. Good place for bookshelves, tables, chairs, and desks.

They have the whole spectrum - you can get something cheap, or something a bit nicer.
