The Brattle Theatre at historic Brattle Hall inspires a kind of nostalgia verging on worship. For anyone who has browsed through the building's subterranean retail shops, or been introduced to Federico Fellini, Ingmar Bergman, Francois Truffaut, or Jean-Luc Godard in its 250-seat theatre, that is the sine qua non of the structure, the Brattle is full of memories, part of our collective unconscious. Each month, the Brattle puts together a packed schedule or indy films and classics. Tickets are sold by cash or check ($20 minimum for checks). Sorry, credit or debit cards are not accepted at this time, however there is an ATM located next door at Wainwright Bank.

There are many good movie houses in Boston (We are so lucky:). I choose the Brattle because it is the one that I go to most frequently, they have a very varied selection of movies, the staff are very friendly, and it feels like "going home" for the evening.
The Brattle Theatre (not the Brattle *Street* Theatre, as listed) is the only independent theatre that truly serves the mission of celebrating film through through preservation, distribution and exhibition. Every other nominee falls short in one or more of those categories.
