It's a tough one, because ICI in Berkeley is SO, so good as well. But Bi-Rite is less froofy, and a little more fun... and REALLY delicious. The Bi-Rite product is a little lighter, "airier" and a little less rich (to my taste). That lets the high quality ingedients really speak for themselves. Salted caramel... Mmmm. I'm daydreaming about it right now. It's worth waiting patiently in line for.
MAYAN CHOCOLATE! thats all I can say. Oh, and their staff is cute AND friendly. A++
This is an amazing shop! You must try the salted caramel flavor, my personal favorite. The ice cream does not compare to any other in SF. I will even go there on a cold day. I highly recommend this shop to all ice cream lovers.
I am an admitted ice cream snob and I've been to many of the great ice cream spots in the country. Bi-Rite is as good as ice cream gets - possibly better than (any very similar to) Toscanini's in Cambridge, MA. They certainly have the best quality ice cream in the Bay Area right now. I recommend their salted caramel (which does not rival Toscanini's burnt caramel), the banana (not a flavor I usually like, but truly excellent here) or the strawberry. Seriously blows away the also-great Ici (on College Ave)
