Although the customer service offer by Mr. Solop of Benchmark Clothiers was good, we had several problems with this company. Our first problem is that he was very pushy about wanting us to refer him to others. He gave us many business cards, which in and of itself was an appropriate way to pursue referrals. However, he then asked one of us to tell co-works about him and to give out his cards to co-workers. He called several times with the same suggestion. We found this to be very pushy. Second, we discovered that the suit was made in China, which came as a complete shock to us as his website explicitly states, “Maryland Custom made men’s suits and hand tailored business man’s designer tuxedos, fine ties, trousers, sport coats, shoes, fashion dress suits, dinner jackets and formal wear shirts and accessories including big and tall clothing and the young man by retailer Benchmark Clothiers.”

After communicating to him our dissatisfaction that he did not tell us the suit would be made in China, he stated that he was “slightly puzzled about a couple of things. I do not believe that I misrepresented where the clothing was made - I don't recall that you or Susan asked. I also do not recall reading anything on my website that indicates where the clothing is manufactured”? In our initial e-mail we were explicit that we did not ask where the suit was to be made, but made a reasonable assumption that it would be made in Maryland because of his marketing.

We also asked for the measurements and any patterns be returned to us. He refused. We then explained why we thought he should at least send us the measurements and he has not returned our e-mail. After waiting almost three weeks we decided to write this review.

In the end we paid a very high price for a custom suit made in China. We believe that we could have paid a much lower price by going to our tailor for measurements and sending them overseas ourselves and having our tailor do touch-ups after we received it. Therefore, we do not recommend Benchmark Clothiers and we tell everyone we know to avoid patronizing it.
