kay and beaux gateaux made a beautiful cake for a baby shower we held. the details of two grasshoppers was amazing and the chalkboard atop the cake perfectly matched our invitation. the cake was a beautiful addition to the event. kay was timely and very professional as well. hopefully we will get use her services again in the near future.
Kay is the best as far as professionalism and attitude there is no one better. I had already been to 4 different "cake designers" before my appointment with Kay and I was getting so frustrated because they were trying to push their own designs on me instead of asking me what I wanted - I mean it was my wedding! Kay was very patient with me and asked me questions to determine what I wanted. I got THE most beautiful and delicious cake for wedding. She really helped make my wedding day special and beautiful.
I'm very picky about cakes. So I have a very high expectation about the most important cake in my life - my wedding cake. It's really hard to find a wedding cake that looks good n' taste good at the same time. We had 5 cake tasting at the best bakeries in town. We finally decided on Beaux Gateaux because they can do very well on both look n' taste. Kay executed it to perfection. Not only I think the cake tasted good, lots guests told me it's yummy!
I'm not sure if the Internet actually existed when my wife and I first started using Kay to make our cakes; but ever since our wedding, she's been our cake maker of choice!
Kay's cake history with the family:
Wedding Cake:
Long ago we challenged Kay to make a massive multi-tier cake that had the exterior faux texture of a rock wall like the ruins of the winery where we were getting married in Sonoma. The net result of this first project with Kay was a professionally-led consultation, followed by a hand-touched (with her mom in tow!) delivery and presentation, followed by a spectacular taste (which can be hard to do with the type of constraints we presented). Our cake was the center of of attention at the wedding and continues to be top of mind when we think back. Large project, high demands (by us), and perfect execution.
Grooms Cake:
I wanted a cheese wheel with a mouse and Kay delivered. If you meet with her, be sure to ask her for pictures. Impeccable. It almost showed up our main cake. Perhaps the cutest yet oddly real thing I have seen. Every groom needs their own cake.
Wedding Welcome Dinner:
Did I mention Kay also does confections? We wanted little marzipan olives to put in little hemp baggies with a tag that said "Olive You" on them. Oh yeah, and I need 300 of them. Done. Oh, and can you make 200 truffles please? No problem! Everything tasted wonderful of course, but the coloring and texture of the marzipan olives made people think they were actually olives! And the hand-made truffles were a real treat, a departure from the store-bought stuff (in a good way), and you get to choose your own custom flavor!
1st Anniversary Cake:
Me (one year later): "Kay, can you make a miniature version of our wedding cake?" Kay: "Sure!" This is the great thing about Kay, she'll take on any project, and her willingness to work with your budget and create what you want is her specialty. Don't read into that odd review too much, Kay has a charming quirky personality, but by no means lacks in professionalism and pro capabilities. This woman lives cakes, as does her team, and is just looking to have some fun with you on your special day.
Sister's Bridal Shower Cake:
Me: "Kay, I need a square, tiered cake, that reminds you of being in Lake Tahoe" "Kay: Ok". Again, ask Kay for pictures. She created an elegant hand-crafted cake for my sister with just the right touches of pine and forest accents with a loving texture to take you to the moment (the wedding itself was set in Tahoe, so wanted to give a sense of the location at the shower in the bay area). We gave Kay a budget, flavors, and let her go. Executed perfectly again.
Sister's Baby Shower Cake:
Me: "Kay, I want you to take Mr. Peanut, put him on his back, put a Red Sox beanie on his head, and give him little feet" (Sister/Husband call their to-be child 'peanut', and the husband is an Red Sox fan) Kay: "Ok" Now, if you meet up with Kay, you MUST ask her to look at a picture of this cake. It is so damn hilarious we almost dropped it! But again, the care to hand carve the shell, place the peanut texture on the body, and knitted fabric beanie texture on his head, and oh so cute little edible feet sticking out....
Look. If you want to actually meet the person who makes your cake, perhaps even have a ton of fun doing so, designing together, learning about the different techniques and mediums available for your special cake, and do so within your budget, Beaux Gateaux is for you. You can see I'm a huge fan, and will continue to cherish Kay's unique love for the art of cake making, and her passion for helping deliver your vision of that special day.
When shopping for a wedding cake, my husband seemed unfazed by all of the various places we tried. According to him, they all tasted the same... until we had a tasting with Kay! Her hazelnut genoise filled with Hazelnut praline pastry cream and dark whipped ganache is completely and utterly amazing. My husband talked about it ceaselessly for months afterwards and I requested it for his birthday the following year which Kay replicated to look like a Nintendo Wii. We've never had so many compliments at a party about our cake before. The replica was done so well, someone actually poked a hole in it with their finger because they couldn't believe it was icing! I was also highly impressed by her Lemon Italian cream cake filled with Meyer lemon mousse which is one of the lightest cakes I've ever tasted with so much intensity of flavor. And her caramel mousse filling is the likes of which I've never seen. Kay is a true craftsman in her art. She absolutely loves what she does and it shows. I would recommend her to any and everyone who wants a cake to remember.
Destination weddings can be tough to organize...really tough if you are the future husband and promised "Don't worry honey, I'll take care of it." A couple of emails to Kay and she made an incredible cake that matched the wedding flowers and most importantly matched our custom wedding rings. The tears were flowing when my wife saw the cake in the center of the table. "Honey, I'll take care of it.".....as long as I can find people like Kay and Beaux Gateaux!
Love, love, love Kay Dillon and Beaux Gateaux! She did exactly what I wanted for my wedding cake and I got a ton of compliments on the look and taste of my cake. She is a true artist and brilliant baker. I'd recommend her to anyone, any where, any time!
Kay, and Beaux Gateaux, created exactly what we wanted for a wedding cake. Even though excellent desserts were already provided by the venue (Park Chalet), we decided that we still wanted the traditional symbol of the wedding cake. Kay was willing to take on our unusual request (for a cake no one had to eat), and produced what we considered a highly stylized and gorgeousthree-tiered wedding cake, matching our theme and colors perfectly. She talked us into getting at least the top tier to be actually made of cake, which was delicious and made for some excellent cake smashing pictures. The pictures of the actual cake came out so beautifully that we featured the pictures on our thank you cards and on the cover of our photo album. She was by far the most professional and easy going vendor that we worked with while preparing for our wedding day. We highly recommend Beaux Gateaux.
All I can say is wow wow wow, that was AMAZING cake!! I'm still drooling about her meyer lemon italian creme cake. It was seriously the best cake I had ever had. I left thinking that I HAD to have that as my wedding cake.
Kay Dillon, the baker, was just as great as the cake. She really spent time to understand our wedding theme. After showing her different aspects of cakes we liked and didn't like through pictures, she was able to create an amazing wedding cake concept for us. The best part was that she drew it out for us, so we could see her vision.
Kay Dillon is fantastic! She is friendly, relaxed, happy and knows how to bake a cake. From the moment my now husband and I met her we knew she was the person to make our wedding cake. Glen and I got married in September 2006 and flew from the UK to get married in San Francisco. Glen and I had been in touch with Kay via e-mail for weeks prior to meeting her. Glen and I knew what type of cake we wanted and the size and colours, but we didn't realise we could have any type of filling or sponge. Kay had a tasting session organised for Glen and I at our meeting and it was then we decided on what type of sponge we wanted and what filling. 1 year after Glen and I met with Kay we married and that is when we saw our wedding cake. The cake was a 3-tier circular cake with white icing and iced flowers in the shape of Stargazer lillies which were burgandy and white. The sponge was a chiffon sponge which was incredibly light and there were 2 fillings, caramel and custard. The cake was breathtaking to look at and exquisite to taste. When Glen and I return to San Francisco we intend to forward book Kay to make us a small replica cake (single tier, of course) as we long to taste that cake again. If anyone is looking for a cake maker in San Francisco the only name you should consider is Beaux Gateaux!
Kay made my wedding cake last September and it was absolutely fabulous! Several people came up at the wedding to complimented on how unique and delicious the cake was. I also enjoyed the whole process of cake tasting and choosing the design of the cake with Kay. We got to see Kay's kitchen and it was spotless and professional. On the day of the wedding, Kay showed up early and had everything set up perfectly. I would recommend Beaux Gateaux's cake to anyone who's planning a wedding.
Kay Dillon made our wedding cake last year. She is a master artist who designs exquisite cakes. One of my favorite photos from our wedding was the cake itself that took our breath away. However, what makes Kay’s beautiful cakes stand out among other talented cake designers are her flavors. The flavor of the cake - our cake was a lemon chiffon with rasberry preserves in a buttercream icing - was moist, LIGHT and delicous. It wasn't too sweet and the flavors blended together blissfully. It was the BEST cake we have ever tasted HANDS DOWN, non-wedding cakes included. How many people can say that about wedding cake!? We dream of her cake and still receive complements about it. Schedule her early, she's in demand. You will have a cake you will still be talking about years later!
Kay did a fabulous job for our wedding. Her carrot cake is the best I've ever tasted and she did exactly what I wanted for our wedding cake. We loved it so much I've gone back to her for other occasions to make us cakes and as usual, they have turned out beautiful. I didn't even realize the flowers adorned weren't real, they were made from sugar and looked absolutely beautiful! I would highly recommend her for any wedding or event!
I cannot say enough about Beaux Gateaux! I am so lucky we found Kay Dillon at Beaux Gateux because she truly made our very elaborate and whimsical cake dreams come true! In fact, the cake Kay baked was better than our dreams!!! It was absolutely beautiful...so beautiful it was featured in Bride's Magazine! And it tasted absolutely amazing!!! Who would think that something so beautiful could taste so good. Kay is the best of the best!
i think that wedding cakes are like babies, we all think that ours are the most beautiful. of course i don't have a baby, but i did have the most perfect wedding cake. kay was great to work with, i had an inspiration cake that i loved, but after working with her on the design it was customized to perfection. and the best part? it was delicious, not just pretty on the outside. half chocolate, half carrot cake. both yummy. we have one month left until we get to eat the top tier! my hubby and i are very excited!
Kay is a sweetheart! She is easy to work with, and makes amazing cakes (beautiful and tasty)! Highest recommendation!
The cake Kay made for my wedding was absolutely beautiful, and delicious too. I highly recommend Beaux Gateaux!
Kay's cake for my daughter's wedding was a difficult because of transportation issues. However, Kay did an outstanding job of making the cake exactly as my daughter wanted, including her designs and her colors. It also was the most delicious wedding cake we have ever tasted! Kay was a professional in every detail. Thanks Beaux Gateaux!
Beaux Gateaux and Kay Dillon are amazing. She listened to us and created the wedding cake of our dreams. Many guests agreed besides being beautiful it was the best tasting cake ever.
My wedding cake was absolutely amazing!!!!! We couldn't decide on chocolate (my fav) or carrot (hubby's fav) so we had both. I didn't get a chance to taste the carrot cake on the day of the wedding but the chocolate cake was SO mosit and delecious. Ugghhhh, I wish I had a piece right now. Kay, the owner and cake designer, was extremely patient during our tasting and very helpful in the design process. The design of the cake was so fab. My wedding planner wants to use a picture of the cake on her website. Kay's servings are generous, I ordered an extra sheet cake and didn't even need it. You and your guests will be thrilled you choose Beaux Gateaux.
Our cake was delicious - one of the best cakes I've ever eaten! Aside from that, I was a little disappointed - though the sketch the artist drew seemed to be exactly what I wanted, when the cake was delivered, it didn't look like I'd expected it to. It wasn't bad, but there weren't as many fondant flowers as I had expected, and they were iridescent in color though I had expressed that I didn't want iridescent colors. Overall, loved eating the cake, just wasn't blown away by the appearance.
Beaux Gateaux is fabulous! The wedding cake was an Italian dream cake,
beautiful and delicious to eat. Many of the wedding guests commented on the design (Italian words in script) and the simple beauty of the added fushia bougainvillea flowers on top. Stunning!
I am an event planner and have had the opportunity to work with Kay Dillon to create original masterpieces for my clients. She is definitely worthy of 5 stars-just amazing!
It was great working with Kay for my wedding. The cake she made for us was delicious. A lot of our guests commented on how good the cake was. And it was a beautiful cake, exactly what I wanted.
Kay was incredible to work with. I interviewed many wedding cake designers, but was instantly impressed with Kay.
She sat down with me and looked at the pictures I had pulled out of magazines and instead of telling me that she couldn't do it or pulling out her own book to show me her fabulous creation (like many of the other desingers)...she sat down and drew/designed a specialized cake for me!
Not only was the cake beautiful...but it was delicious. All of my guests commented on how good the cake was and even my husband who doesn't like cake at all thought it was really good.
The best part about Kay is that she is open, friendly, and knowledgable and she will work with you to make your cake special (and affordable).
Kay is just incredible- I went to her with a sample of lace from my wedding dress and my color scheme and she designed a GORGEOUS cake at a very reasonable price. The best part- it was soo delicious. I've gone to so many weddings with lovely cakes that taste just awful, but Kay's was absolutely scrumptious. She is a pleasure to work with and creates impecable cakes.
Loved working with Kay! She designed a gorgeous cake, making a vision reality. Everyone said the cake was delicious and went back for seconds and thirds!
everyone loved my unique and delicious wedding cake. mmm.... i can still taste it!
Not only have I tasted Kay's delicious cakes at numerous industry events, we've featured her creative genius in the Today's Bride Idea Gallery, 3 out of the last 4 issues, and also on www.AboutWeddings.com.
