Come and Visit us for Holidays at the History Center. December 1 -19th! The 14 founders of the Atlanta History Center could not have envisioned their future impact when in 1926 they formed what was then known as the Atlanta Historical Society. Beginning as a group of civic-minded Atlantans – led by prominent attorney Walter McElreath and meeting in each other’s homes, collecting early manuscripts and photos, and publishing research bulletins to “arouse in the citizens and friends of Atlanta an interest in history” – it has turned into a primary source of Atlanta, regional and national history. Discover the History of the South through award-winning exhibitions, two historic homes, acres of beautiful gardens, research facilities, and midtown campus housing the Margaret Mitchell House and Museum

There are some things that just can't be captured in the words of a text book. The Atlanta History Center provides us with an interesting venue to explore our Atlanta history and helps us find out more about our founding mothers and fathers. In addition the events held at the AHC are consistently fabulous and well organized!

The Atlanta History Center is the place that I ALWAYS take visitors because it is the very best way to understand and learn more about Atlanta, Georgia, and the south. Their Civil War exhibit is one of the best in the world, the six gardens with different themes are spectacular. It is an entertaining and fascinating place to spend time.

Don't let the name deceive you! What's great about the Atlanta History Center is that it's not just about the history of Atlanta. They offer a wonderful variety of exhibits and programs on national, international, and cross-cultural topics.

The Atlanta History Center is a comprehensive museum that has had some of the most exciting exhibits that this city has ever seen. From the King Papers which brought international attention to the city to the Olympic museum and the Ben Franklin exhibit, the Atlanta History Center continues to be on the cutting edge.

The Atlanta History Center firmly establishes Atlanta's identity and the role Atlanta has played in the history of the United States past and present. When you visit the AHC you know you have connected the dots between the city Atlanta was, the city it has become, the city it will become and the city's influence on the international scene.

I'm a native Atlantan now living in Washington DC. My friends call me the other famous Margaret of Atlanta because I work at the National Weather Service and really did go with the wind. Anyways, I think of Atlanta nearly every day while I'm in DC and the place I miss the most is the Atlanta History Center. From the cobblestones in the entrance to the exhibits featuring what made Atlanta the worldclass city it is, nothing creates better memories for those who are Atlanta natives.

They bring Atlanta History to life for Atlanta citizens and visitors alike. It is easy to spend day in the history center and still not see everything. The membership that I obtained is really worth the money, since there are always many things going on. They are very careful in choosing exhibits that will bring visitors back to our rich past and historical treasures, creating new adventures each time.
